Spotlight of the Month- Mihaela

Spotlight of the Month- Mihaela

Happy April! It’s a month of blooming flowers, and delightful celebrations.  Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? It’s a reminder to prioritize self-care and find healthy ways to manage stress. So go ahead, treat yourself to a relaxing bath, read that book or some Creatively Linked spotlights, or simply unwind and do nothing at all. Now, let's get into this month's spotlight- allow me to introduce you to Mihaela. She’s a super talented and creative woman who runs her own handmade ceramics company right here in Arizona. I vividly remember stumbling upon her work at a local market—it was one of those moments when you’re just blown away. Now, I’m eagerly eyeing her beautiful one of kind mugs—I’m a huge mug enthusiast! Mihaela is known for her humor, fierce loyalty, and straightforward nature, she is always up for a good chat and a great time. Whether you’re sipping tea from one of her cups or admiring her unique pieces, her passion shines through. Let's celebrate and support her this month!

  •  What is your creative talent? "Handmade ceramics"

  • Tell us a little bit about your business:  "Maheyla Ceramics is a small one-woman run handmade ceramics business.  All my pieces are handmade; either wheel thrown, or hand built. My most popular works include mugs, bowls, paint palettes, and snake incense holders.  My greatest inspiration is from nature. I really like to incorporate shades of green or blue glazes onto my dark and light ceramic pieces. My name is Mihaela (pronounced Ma-hey-la) which is where the name comes from. My name has always been unique, and it connects me to my Romanian roots. The pronunciation is American which deeply resonates with me as I've spent most of my life in America. It only seemed fitting to name my business after both parts of myself. My ceramics can be found at The Merchantile (Phoenix location), at local markets in the valley and I'm always open to take any commissions via my Instagram account @maheyla.ceramics. I am currently in the process of updating my site with my latest work."

  • What are some of your best/favorite accomplishments?  "In 2023, I sold over 100 ceramic pieces at local markets, completed a wholesale order for 25 bud vases, sold 80 ceramics pieces at a local shop and, created my largest pieces to date - 3 pedestal bowls."

  • What advice would you give the younger generation?  "Be in the moment, every moment, good or bad. It's easy to live in the future, it's fun to look back at the past but it's hard to actively be in the moment. Fully own it now. If you have a passion or dream, go after it today. Not tomorrow, next month or later this year. Start working on it, little by little and enjoy the process along the way."

Getting to know Mihaela has been an absolute joy! I loved hearing her advice to the younger generation, "be in the moment, every moment, good or bad. It's easy to live in the future, it's fun to look back at the past but it's hard to actively be in the moment" such a spot-on message and something I personally needed to hear! Her creative talent in making pottery is truly mind-blowing, and her pieces are nothing short of amazing. What’s also inspiring is her unwavering drive and initiative as a business owner. Running a business can be a challenging endeavor but witnessing Mihaela live out her dreams is a testament to her resilience and passion.  Mihaela’s craftsmanship is unparalleled, and I can’t wait to add some of her pieces to my collection.  If you’re also drawn to artistry and want to support a talented creator, make sure to follow Mihaela on Instagram. Trust me, all of her pieces are like little treasures waiting to find their forever homes. Mihaela, you are definitely Creatively Linked!
