Spotlight of the Month- Rakia

Spotlight of the Month- Rakia

Welcome to September, the start of fall and one month closer to the holidays! This month, we have a very special spotlight dedicated to the gorgeous Rakia. Rakia is an unforgettable woman, known for her sweetness, beauty, exceptional talent, and unwavering determination.  I first met Rakia through my best friend Rekia in 2010. Yes, you read that right – I have two friends named Rakia and Rekia!  From the moment I met Rakia, I was drawn to her love of life and positive energy.  We recently reconnected at church and discovered our shared passion for boxing. Our weekly boxing dates have become a highlight, providing a therapeutic outlet and opportunities for great conversations. Rakia has offered me invaluable advice on motherhood, being a wife, and nurturing my creativity- she is full of so much wisdom. I could go on and on, but we wouldn't get to the actual interview. lol So, without further ado, meet Rakia!

  •  What is your creative talent? "Growing up I studied performance arts. My creative talents are singing, dancing, acting, writing, and painting."

  • What are some of your favorite accomplishments?  "During my adolescence, I was able to participate in plays, dance recitals, and music performances. Years later I met my now husband, and after we got married, I decided to go back to school before we had children. I went back to school and became pregnant three times and gave birth to four children. Through Jesus, I worked full-time and raised our four small children while completing an associate degree, two additional certifications, two bachelor's degrees, and the Barrett Honors Program. I received an associate degree in communication, a global distinction certification, and a workplace competence certification while attending Glendale Community College and graduated in 2021. I transferred to Arizona State University West and completed a bachelor's degree in psychology and a bachelor's degree in communication in 2023."

Here are some more of Rakia's favorite quotes:
  • “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run the walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  • “The doubters said, man cannot fly, the doers said, maybe, but we'll try, and finally soared into the morning glow, while non-believers, watched from below.” -Bruce Lee

  • What's the most valuable lesson you've learned throughout your journey that you'd like to share with younger people? "Never give up hope! God gave all his children a purpose; therefore, we are all created for a purpose. Find God’s purpose for your life, and through Christ work towards your life’s purpose. When the enemy attacks us, a blessing is on the way. The bigger the attack, the bigger the blessing, so stay firm in faith, and always put on the armor of God! Get to know Jesus and learn to see yourself the way He sees you, not how you see yourself or others see you. With more wisdom comes more responsibility, but with more responsibility comes more freedom. If you accept challenges, then you are more likely to welcome success. Work as hard as you can, give your all to God, and where you lack have faith that Jesus will provide strength in abundance."

  • If your closest friends were asked to describe you, how would they do so? "I reached out to my closest friends, who have also known me for a long time to research the answer to the questioned listed above, not only to avoid assuming, but also the feeling that I was bragging. One of my friends said, “You’re a beautiful person inside and out. You are thoughtful, caring, passionate, and full of light. A wonderful friend, wife, and mommy.” Another close friend stated, “I would describe you as loyal and a kind friend who consistently brings joy and support into my life. Your genuine care for others and infectious positivity have made you an invaluable part of my life for more than a decade.” I feel very grateful because I have some amazing friends that I am grateful to have and appreciate them being a part of my life and journey."

Rakia is truly inspirational, gifted with a wealth of talents that continually amaze me. I've witnessed her excel in the boxing gym and heard her perform original songs with such a beautiful voice. As an amazing mother to four beautiful boys, a devoted wife, and a supportive friend, she has overcome numerous obstacles in her life, demonstrating extraordinary perseverance.  It's an honor to call her a friend, and I can wholeheartedly agree with the positive comments from her best friends. She is a supportive friend who will be your biggest cheerleader, she is always showing her love for Creatively Linked and I truly appreciate her support, thank you girl!  Rakia serves as a true role model not only for her children but also for anyone seeking inspiration. Her ability to work full-time, earn multiple degrees, while pregnant and raising a family is a testament to her discipline and strength.  There is literally no doubt in my mind that she can do anything she puts her mind to and that is major goals (beauty, brains & talent!)  Rakia often shares valuable insights in our conversations, and she is such a beautiful woman in Christ. I particularly appreciate her advice to the younger generation, "Never give up hope! God gave all his children a purpose; therefore, we are all created for a purpose. When the enemy attacks us, a blessing is on the way." This positive outlook on life's challenges reminds us that difficulties are often temporary, and can lead to something beautiful, especially when we have found our Christ-given purpose.  I admire her deeply and am incredibly proud of her accomplishments. I'm excited to see what the future holds for her.  Rakia, you are definitely Creatively Linked!
